New World Build Guide for the Great Axe and War Hammer. This Whirlwind Great Axe as well as War Hammer Build focuses on dealing a hefty amount of AoE damage, while also controlling crowds and containing enemies as well as players. This is a PvE and PvP Build that isn’t just good for Questing or PvP and Questing, but also for Expeditions and also has some of the best AoE damage within the New World. If you’ve been searching for a good Excellent Axe or War Hammer Build Then this Guide is for you. We also recommend our Musketeer Build!
The way this Build will work is that you’ll use Path of Destiny to attack enemies from a distance before closing in and engaging your target. It’s a good idea to use Gravity Well to capture and bind targets, and then you’ll use Charge to move in melee range. You’ll then make use of Maelstrom to AoE all enemies, before swapping to War Hammer. War Hammer and popping both Shockwave to Stun targets, and Clear Out to send all flying.
This combo is truly dangerous, and it should perform similar in Expeditions and in PvP. This Build is obviously better in large and medium battles in groups, but it works effectively in 1 0n 1 and smaller PvP as well due to the fact that this combo is extremely powerful. Great Axe and War Hammer are such strong Weapons.
The Great Axe and War Hammer are based solely on the Strength attribute, so it’s the one you’ll need to concentrate on to get the most damage. But, you’ll also be within melee range, so you’ll get hit often with this system, which is why it’s beneficial to include Constitution to be able to withstand the attacks of both players and enemies.
I like to distribute my Attribute points with a 2:1 ratio of Strength and Constitution This means that for every two points I drop into Strength, I drop one point to Constitution. This allows you to stay alive as you take some punishment and allows you to continue swinging. Be aware that you could possess a lot of Constitution from your Armor and might not need to invest quite as many points into Constitution if you choose to do so, but just ensure that your Strength stays around twice that of Constitution.
The Skills that you’ll require to build are more or less identical regardless of the type of content you are using in New World, so you shouldn’t have to shift the skills around much. But, it’s optimized slightly more toward the PvP side of things as well, and you can swap out Gravity Well to Reap when you’re interested in PvE. This is because it’s a powerful AoE that heals your character and deal more damage as Gravity Well.
Charge – This skill is the closest you can get to your opponent, and is essential to play PvP. And it’s better than you imagine in Expeditions. You can use this to make it easier to reach enemies after you are able to Gravity Well them or help gain ground on fleeing opponents. It’s also exceptionally good at getting you back to bosses who may have moved or knocked you away, and allowing you to continue your DPS immediately.
Gravity Well – This skill uses an Axe that causes an orb, which slows down and damages enemies and players caught in it. It allows enemies to be grouped up so you can AoE the enemy, and will stop players from fleeing during PvP. You’ll be able to score more kills if you use this ability in combat, whether in small or large battles, so it’s definitely beneficial to have it at least 95% of the time.
Maelstrom – This is your most effective AoE Skill, and when upgraded, it can hit twice in a huge AoE extremely quickly. The good thing about this skill is that you don’t have to aim. If you’re facing a mobile enemy (or player) and are struggling to hit them, use this Skill to strike them without having to focus your attack. Use this on large groups of enemies for the best results.
of Destiny – Path of Destiny – What I like about this Skill is that it allows your Build some range, that could be utilized to soften up targets before you get in the range, or to stop players who are low on Health. The range is the most weak point of this Build, and by adding a small amount is a big help.
Shockwave – This Skill does an AoE of medium size which stuns and inflicts damage to enemies that surround you. This is fantastic in both PvP and PvE situations as it not only deals damages, it also protects the other members of your party from being injured. The ideal scenario is to use it after Maelstrom before using Clear Out to further CC enemies.
Clear Out ability will send enemies in a large arc of flight, and inflicts damage at the same time. I prefer to finish my run with this Ability as it lets me select a specific target and allows me to create some separation in the event that there are a lot of opponents (or opponents) are standing right in front of you. It’s also an AoE sort, so you could cause a significant amount of damage in a single attack.
For passives , you’ll want to look for things which increase the damage you receive. But, you’ll definitely want to take your Blood Lust Skill as soon as you can , as it allows you to take on players in PvP far more easily, and also improves your damage when you play PvE and PvP. If you can’t catch enemies in PvP you will lose out on many kills.
In the case of Weapons you’ll need an Axe that is Great and a Hammer as well as to find ones that will do the maximum amount of damage. Don’t just look at what’s the gear Score. As both of these Weapons are rated by Strength only so you must find models that have this characteristic.
You’ll also want to consider Crit Chance, and Light Attack and Heavy Attack damage. It’s not always feasible to hit enemies in the back to get guaranteed Critical Hits. Likewise, you are likely to Light as well as Heavy Attack often. If you’re lucky enough to get a Gem slot, consider putting in an Emerald for more damage to low Health enemies, or you could slot a Jasper to increase damage after you’ve taken consecutive hits.
When you’re looking for Armor you’ll be trying to find the best heavy Armor that you can put on. Faction Reputation is not hard to find and comes with a number of great bonuses, so consider using this early on when you haven’t run any Expeditions but.
You’ll need Heavy Armor for this Build as you’ll get many times hit, and it will allow you to get healed through the injuries when you go on Expeditions in PvP. Heavy Armor provides more protection than Light or Medium Armors therefore you should wear all five pieces if possible.
Check for bonuses on your Armor which increase your Strength, Constitution , and Damage Absorption. Anything that further reduces the damage can be beneficial including a lower Critical Damage, etc.
As opposed to Builds that utilize Ranged Weapons, you can’t be attacked from afar in PvP. The best possible scenario for you is to get into melee range undetected, and you can often utilize the terrain to block your way and catch other players off guard. Ranged Builds have a difficult time dealing with this Build in melee. If you can slash at players before they see your presence, you’ll have greater success.
Make sure to utilize Charge to close the gap between enemy fleeing. Sometimes you’ll need to use it in a 5x or 4x fashion to get someone to stop and you’ll be in a position to do this if they’re not sporting any abilities that can increase their speed, as well. This one Skill can get your more killings than just about any other.
Make sure to take your lead using Gravity Well so that both enemies and players remain stuck when you begin your attack. This will help to improve your damage, and something you need to begin to do as soon as possible. Note that when in melee range if you utilize this ability it is possible to hit opponents and players with your blade as you swing upwards inflicting damage on the first casting.
Also, don’t forget repair your Equipment. The equipment will be harmed by this Build so you’ll need to repair more than some other builds. You should do this every time you require it for most effective outcomes. Click the repair all button on the bottom of your inventory in order to complete the repair quickly.
