The problem is that PSO2 Meseta might end up in a PSU scenario in which another game is out, but they do not update it anymore and keep the match alive until the populace falls below the point at which they can justify keeping up the servers. Announcing this for a four month old game where a lot of things aren’t going to be moving over makes it more like a money grab. To mepersonally, it even feels as though they’re trying to double dip right now.
Since NGS is designed to sit alongside current-gen PSO2; you could transfer characters back and forth between them at any moment. They will be implementing the graphics engine update to the original PSO2 also so it will continue to exist alongside NGS instead of simply be abandoned.
They probably figured that individuals would wish to be able to experience the first PSO2 the way JP players did so that, when NGS comes, they could experience precisely the same circumstance that JP gamers had/have. They have also expressed that they need JP and NA to eventually maintain sync, so this provides a route so that NA players can reach at the exact same point as JP players at a more-accelerated manner.
You could look at any F2P match cynically in that way — the sole reason to start any F2P match (or game, actually ) is to break-even or profit. But if they’d only started NGS without bringing through the first cheap Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta at all, there’d be a good deal of articles NA players could be missing out on, and that includes items you can get in PSO2 and take over to NGS.
